Scuba Diving & Snorkeling in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
Florida is without a doubt one of the most popular places in the world to scuba dive and snorkel and because of our popularity with divers, the Town is known as "Florida’s Beach Diving Capital." Our Datura Avenue beach portal (Datura Avenue and El Mar Drive) is one of the most popular spots for divers and snorkelers in Broward County, especially with a tank rack for gear set up, and with the Anglin’s Pier Reef Snorkel Trail in 10 feet of water, and three the coral reefs within 100 yards off the beach in Lauderdale-By-The Sea.
The Town is also home to the SS Copenhagen, a British shipwreck and Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve (reachable by boat).
The Datura Avenue beach entrance is one of the most popular spots for divers and snorkelers in Broward County and even has a tank rack for gear set up, and there is a Shipwreck Snorkel Trail off Datura in 10 feet of water.
SNORKEL TRAIL
Dedicated in 2002 by explorer Jean-Michele Cousteau, the site was built by the Marine Archaeological Council to promote Broward County’s rich maritime heritage. The trail has an anchor, five concrete cannons and a ballast pile.
SS COPENHAGEN
The Town is home to SS Copenhagen, a 19th Century British steamship that wrecked in May 1900, less than a mile offshore in 25 feet of water. Florida designated the wreck as an Underwater Archaeological Preserve in 1994. With an estimated 10,000 annual visitors, SS Copenhagen is the most popular underwater preserve in Florida. The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Underwater wreck maps are available at our two dive shops, Town Hall and at the Chamber of Commerce.
