[ARCHIVED] Fort Lauderdale Will Chlorinate Water System

Water Chlorination April 2021 Flyer

The City of Fort Lauderdale will temporarily switch to using free chlorine in its drinking water system beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 through 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.Free Chlorination is a common preventative maintenance procedure for water systems using chloramines for disinfection. The City expects the chlorination period to be transparent to our neighbors; however, some may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their tap water. In addition, neighbors may see fire hydrants running in their neighborhoods, which is part of the normal maintenance process.

The Pompano Beach Utilities Department will begin a free chlorination treatment of its entire distribution system on Monday, March 22nd. This treatment will be in effect for four weeks, until Monday, April 19th. This free chlorination treatment is a common maintenance practice used by utilities. The City of Pompano Beach free chlorinates the distribution system periodically.

Generally speaking, Fort Lauderdale provides water to Town residents living south of Publix Supermarket while Pompano Beach provides water to residents living north of Publix.

You need to look at your bill or check with your condo association if you are not certain which city provides you water.
