The Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Community Center’s Seaside Players will present eight 10-minute plays in March as part of its Sea Shorts Play Festival.
The upcoming shows will be performed six times over two weekends on March 1, 2 and 3, and March 8, 9 and 10. The Friday and Saturday shows are at 7PM. The Sunday matinees are at 4PM. All shows are free. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. No reservations or tickets are needed.
This year’s plays include A Moment of Clarity, Away We Go, Please Hold, The Nude, One Smear Fits All, Cleaning House, Road Trip and The Other Side.
One Smear Fits All is about a sleazy marketing firm that produces political attack ads. Away We Go is a comedy set in a Florida funeral home.
A Moment of Clarity deals with a father and son who share a special moment together while waiting for a prescription to be filled.
All of the scripts are original and written by accomplished local playwrights. After posting a request for plays on the Florida Theater Chat Facebook page, Sea Shorts received 30 submissions.
“We were overwhelmed by the number of plays that were sent in,” said Brenda Aulbach, a Lauderdale-By-The-Sea resident and Sea Shorts director. “We read them all and picked the best. We have some funny comedies and one or two dramatic plays as well. It’s going to be an awesome production.”
