Electric scooters currently banned

no scooters

The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea has not authorized the operation of motorized scooters on our public rights-of-ways. Using these vehicles is prohibited in the Town. Pursuant to Florida Statutes, a motorized scooter cannot be ridden on the street (Chapter 320), sidewalk (Chapter 316) or bicycle path (Chapter 316). Scooter operators may receive a traffic ticket from the Broward Sheriff's Office for violating state law.

Any scooter parked or placed in our Town will be deemed abandoned property, immediately removed from the right-of-way and placed in storage. An administrative fee per scooter will be assessed and must be satisfied with payment to the Town in order to retrieve the scooter. Here are the fees:

  • Scooter impounded during normal business hours: (Monday-Friday 7:30AM - 4:30PM) $25 per scooter.
  • Scooter impounded after normal business hours: $50 per scooter.
  • Scooter impounded on a holiday: $100 per scooter.
