You can now alert the police without even making a phone call.
The Broward Sheriff's Office SaferWatch app allows smartphone users to contact police to report a crime or see any suspicious activity.
The mobile app was initially developed for students and school officials following the tragic Parkland shooting, but its use is being expanded to include the general public. The app allows users to send text, photos, video or audio tips about possible threats or crimes that have occurred. You can even make anonymous tips using the SaferWatch app.
“SaferWatch is another tool for the public to provide law enforcement with timely information that can help us solve cases and ensure public safety,” said BSO Capt. Thomas Palmer. “As the program expands, it will also allow BSO to issue real-time ALERTS to the subscribers in their areas. This application is available for download on your smartphone, it is simple to use, and it is free. Please remember this tool is NOT meant to replace a call to 911 if you are a witness or a victim of a crime in progress.”
The SaferWatch App is available for every resident and visitor in Broward County. If you submit a tip anywhere in Broward County, even outside of a BSO District, BSO will still receive the information and will immediately forward it to the proper police agency. Tips submitted outside of Broward County are handled by other law enforcement agencies.
